City Councils and Generalitat agree that 14 trains a day interconnect with the station Salou-Port Aventura

Salou. Costa Dorada. 20 April 2018. Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat has reached an agreement with the municipalities of Salou, Tarragona, Cambrils, Reus and Vila-seca to shape the future of the Camp de Tarragona infrastructures. These new strategies will mean that the Salou-Port Aventura station is interconnected by fourteen trains a day. From this station, four trains will depart from the new line R17 and ten from the conventional line RT2 towards Tarragona and Barcelona.

To these new lines will be added the start-up of the double track between Vandellòs and Camp de Tarragona, as well as the connection with the high-speed line. The mayor of Salou, believes that this new road communication strategy will benefit local passengers, who will earn travel time, frequency, service and connectivity. "Therefore, we will gain in quantity and quality of rail services, since there is a greater adaptation to the needs, both personal and tourist, offering more possibilities of using this transport". In this regard, the mayor stressed the priority of having the new station Salou-PortAventura, "because we can not forget the movement of 800,000 users who use the train to travel for various reasons in our town, and this requires quality services and a station quality".

The mayor also referred to the airport's intermodal station saying that "it will be the reference station of all because it will serve the territory, people and economic activity, giving a great boost and added value to the airport with an objective commitment to that ends up being the 4th track of Barcelona ".

Also, the dismantling of the unoccupied roads of the railway traffic once the Corridor enters into operation is part of this agreement. Mayor Granados stated that "for Salou it is a historic demand because it eliminates a barrier that divides the municipality." He said that the dismantling "will allow us to structure a new internal mobility by developing the Eix Cívic project, which already foresees the implementation of a proximity tram system, the TrenTram, fully integrated into the urban layout of the future avenue and adapted to the layout according to foresees the project ".

In this sense, the agreement includes the implementation of a tram-train system from Cambrils and Salou to Tarragona and Reus, once the dismantling and urban integration of the roads between Cambrils and Salou / Port Aventura has been completed.

In conclusion, the mayor states that "this railway program to be implemented in Salou will represent the great urban transformation of the last 10 years, since it will have a significant positive impact in the urban and infrastructural sphere, but also at a social level and economic dynamism".

In this sense the mayor regrets that the municipal groups of the PP and Ciutadans would not have voted in favor of the motion approved the last plenary, demanding the government of the State the fulfillment of all pending commitments in relation to the railway network of the Mediterranean Corridor in Salou and the territory.

In this regard the mayor noted that "it is incomprehensible to see as councilors of the PP and Ciutadans do not vote in favor of a motion that precisely what claims is the implementation of projects that we have agreed today several municipalities and the Generalitat, because this shows that they are located in the orbit of the defense of their respective parties and not in the defense of the interests of their municipality and territory."
