Núria Rion wins the X Salou Prize for pictorial research

The winner, together with his work, the mayor and the organizers



Salou. Costa Dorada. 15 July 2018. The work "Projecte Retorna / Pell", by Núria Rion Virgili, was the winner of the X Salou Prize for pictorial investigation José Luis Rubio Sáez Memorial, which failed yesterday at the Torre Vella, and which is endowed with 7,000 euros. The works of Ruth Moran and Anna comellas Alaben have won the two second prizes of 2,000 and 1,000 euros. The ruling coincides with the opening of an exhibition where you can see the 155 works submitted to the biennial art contest of the capital of the Costa Dorada.

The Mayor Pere Granados, the Councilor for Culture and Festivities, María José Rodríguez, and other municipal councilors and artists, as well as the Rubio family -mecena of the biennial- and the curator of the exhibition Raquel Medina, were present at the opening ceremony. , responsible for reading the jury's verdict.

In addition to the first prize, granted unanimously, and the two second prizes, the jury considered that a mention of honor should be granted to the work "Artificios.15" by María Jesús García-Fraile.

Granados stressed that "the Prize for Pictorial Research is a benchmark in the world of plastic arts, since it is a prize already consolidated in the Spanish state panorama." We presume to have a great patron in the municipality, José Luis Rubio, and in addition, we appreciate the support for the art he has shown year after year and the appreciation of his city "with a continuous patronage of the Rubio family that has been doing a cultural venture in Salou for eighteen years and ten years. Granados also congratulated the winners and also thanked all the participants for the great effort and the undoubted quality of their work.

For its part, the councilor of the area, María José Rodríguez, said "the importance of this award, as it is a reflection of the constant growth of culture in Salou", adding that "from the City we want to continue betting on this award as it encourages pictorial experimentation and the dissemination of contemporary art. "

The jury of this tenth edition of the award has been formed by the journalist and art critic, Josep Mª Cadena; the gallerist and architect, Antoni Pinyol; the head of the art collections of the "La Caixa" Foundation, Nimfa Bisbe; the head of the Collection and curator, for the Friends of MACBA, Antonia M. Perelló; and the critic, editor of the Bonart Magazine and cultural promoter, Ricard Planas.

The winning works, along with the rest of selected works, can be visited until September 9 in the exhibition hall of Torre Vella from Monday to Saturday from 6 to 9 pm, Sundays and holidays closed.
