The Botanic Park, the new point of interest of Salou

Salou. Costa Dorada. Since August 16, 2009 Salou has a new point of interest: Botanic Park, a vast green area of 1.7 hectares and over 400 species of Mediterranean plants and other parts of the world. The park is situated on the road to Reus with street Ciutat de Reus, at the entrance of Salou, and has been designed to combine educational and pedagogical issues relating to botanical knowledge to the uses of city park, where walking and resting. As of Monday, August 17th of 2009 the park opens its doors every day from 19 to 22 hours. Different plant species are distributed in terraced agricultural inspiration typical Mediterranean landscape, which also allow to save the topographic slope of the area where the park. Another element is the water that is displayed to the visitor through a series of small canals and terraces accompanying tours, souvenir of the traditional irrigation ditches. Channels distributed throughout the park are part of a closed loop where the water pumped from the lowest point of the park, runs through the channels until you return to your starting gravity. This system ensures the necessary flow and optimizes the water needs of the park. Some unique species that can be observed are palm wine or Jubaea chilensis of Chile; the palm Yatay or Buti Yatay of Argentina; the tree of wool or Chorisia speciosa, which is in Brazil and Argentina, and has coarse spines on its trunk ; leg cow or Bauhinia purpurea of India or the coral tree (Erythrina caffra) in South Africa, among others. The construction of the Botanic Park Salou has allowed further degraded to regenerate an area of the municipality where the City has invested nearly 3 million of euros.
