Salou promotes a congress to value sun and beach tourism

Moreno, Granados, Espasa

Salou. Costa Dorada. 23 November 2022.

Salou will host on November 28 and 29 a congress that aims to revalue sun and beach tourism and vindicate the importance of this sector, fundamental in the economy of Salou and very important both in Catalunya and in the whole of the Spanish state.

During the presentation ceremony of this initiative, which was born with the intention of being regular and annual, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, lamented the stigmatization suffered by this sector despite the fact that it generates a very notable contribution to the PIB, which creates numerous jobs and that it is the preferred destination of a large number of people and families.

In Catalunya, for example, and according to the collection of the tourist tax, a faithful thermometer of the activity of each of the Catalan tourist municipalities, after the indisputable Barcelona, two sun and beach municipalities are clearly and very prominent: Salou and Lloret de Mar, which occupy the second and third position, respectively.

During the congress, a meeting of the board of the Association of Tourist Municipalities will also be held, an entity that brings together the main tourist municipalities on the coast of the Spanish state: Arona, Adeje, Benidorm, Calvià, Lloret de Mar, Torremolinos, San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Salou. During this meeting, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, will take over the presidency of the entity for a period of one year. Bearing in mind that municipal elections will be held next May, if Granados does not continue to hold the mayor's office in Salou, the presidency of this entity will pass into the hands of the person who will take over from the mayor's office in Salou.

Granados believes that the congress and this meeting should serve, among other things, to raise awareness of the need for coastal tourism, tourism that brings a greater number of visitors to Catalunya, despite which 'on many occasions we feel helpless because the Catalan institutions do not treat coastal tourism as it really deserves'.

On the other hand, one of the main claims of the Association of Tourist Municipalities is directly addressed to the Spanish government since the entity claims that the tourist municipalities should have income or compensation based on the floating population, a singularity that is not taken into account counts in municipalities that are net recipients of tourism.

The presentation of this new congress was carried out by the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, the councilor for Economic Management and Finance, Yeray Moreno, and the director of the Municipal Tourist Services, Marc Espasa.

The congress will be held in the facilities of the Teatre Auditori de Salou (TAS) and, among other issues, will address the evolution of the coastal tourism model, the new smart tourist destinations and other aspects related to mobility, sustainability, energy management, etc.
