Salou receives € 6 million to be more sustainable, smarter and more seasonally adjusted

One of the actions will be to create 12 km of bike lanes

The Salou City Council has been working for a long time to renovate the tourist destination and turn it into an avant-garde destination, this is more sustainable, smarter thanks to digitization, and more seasonally adjusted. The proposal has been supported by Next Generation funds, through the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, which will finance 6 million euros to make the project a reality.

As explained by the mayor of the capital of the Costa Dorada, Pere Granados, the Sustainable and Intelligent Salou Plan will carry out various actions in the urban space to favor this transition, structured in 4 axes:

1.Green / blue remodeling of parks and squares: a total of 11 urban areas in Salou will be intervened, improving urbanization and urban equipment and renaturing the spaces with the implantation of native vegetation and trees, better adapted to local water and weather conditions. 1.1 million euros will be invested in this project.
The squares and parks that will be remodeled are: Avenida del Batlle Pere Molas, Plaza de Andalusia, Plaza de la Pau, Plaza de la Província, Plaza Sant Jordi, Plaza de la Corona d'Aragó, Plaza de Cala Crancs (Cap Salou) the Sardana Square, Lluís Braille Square, Manel Albinyana Park and Les Pedreres Park.

2. Improvement of energy efficiency: includes the second phase of remodeling Carles Buïgas avenue, one of the most commercial areas of Salou, to facilitate the use of public space by people. 3 million euros are reserved for this performance.

This second axis also includes the creation of 12 km of bike lanes to promote a more sustainable city and favor decarbonisation. 700,000 euros will be allocated.

3. In the third axis of the digital transition, various projects have been presented that continue the Salou Smart Turístico proposal:
  • 250,000 euros to equip themselves with the necessary tools to create the Open Data Salou Turístico.
  • 100,000 euros to generate new digital content in the historical sphere for the Camino de Ronda as a tourist product.
  • 250,000 euros to deconcentrate public space and that the economic sectors of the different parts of Salou can benefit from the presence of tourists.
4. In the fourth and last axis of tourist competitiveness, action will be aimed at enabling new vehicle parking areas that are dissuasive, intelligent and sustainable to reduce the carbon footprint in Salou. Specifically, it will take place on Pompeu Fabra street, on avenida de les Pedreres; in Carles Roig street; on Barenys street and on Avenida Joan Fuster / Passeig del 30 d'Octubre.

In the presentation, Pere Granados thanked the Secretary of State for Tourism of Spain, Fernando Valdés, and also the General Director of Tourism of the Generalitat, Marta Domènech, and their respective teams, for supporting this project to transform Salou.
