Christmas lights in Salou

Christmas Salou 2025

Salou. Costa Dorada. 28 November 2025. On Friday, November 28, 2025, Salou switched on its Christmas lights and unveiled a new Christmas tree. The new tree has a more natural appearance than in previous years and is taller, reaching 12 meters in height. Furthermore, the City Council has extended Christmas lighting across the entire municipality, particularly in Cap Salou and Xalets, and has reinforced it in the main commercial hub of the Costa Dorada capital.

Mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, and the Councillor for Economic Promotion, Hèctor Maiquez, inaugurated the Christmas lights in front of thousands of people at the roundabout where Carrer Barcelona and Via Roma converge, which is also the site of the Christmas tree. The goblins Lolli&Pop, from the Fran company, presented a family-friendly show. The Children's Choir and the Middle Choir of the Salou Municipal School of Music also performed, singing several Christmas carols. Additionally, the Moon and Escena dance schools offered a joint performance featuring their young students. The event, which included music, light, and color, also featured a popular hot chocolate distribution (xocolatada), with 1,900 portions handed out, along with gifts and various surprises.

This is a highly popular event attended by families and people of all ages. Therefore, arriving early was important, as the area around the roundabout hosting the Christmas tree and the stage quickly fills up with people.

Sustainable Christmas Decorations

Regarding the Christmas decorations, Carrer Barcelona now incorporates new three-dimensional festive figures, and 10 additional light curtains have been installed in the palm trees along the northern section of this road, near Carrer Ametlla de Mar. The aim is to reinforce the festive image of one of Salou's main commercial circuits.

In addition to the lighting, new street-level Christmas figures, bright cords, renewed motifs, and illuminated lampposts transform the urban landscape with a completely new festive look.

All Christmas decorations are highly energy efficient, as sustainability is a key element in municipal management. For this reason, the City Council’s Christmas decorations have been renewed and replaced with light, very low-consumption aluminum elements.

The Crocheted Christmas Tree

The large Christmas tree on Carrer Barcelona is not the only one in the municipality. Salou also features a Christmas tree made of crochet by the Salou Women's Group Association (Associació Grup de Dones de Salou). The tree is 10 meters high and is the tallest crocheted tree in Catalonia. This tree was illuminated on November 29 at 7 pm, and as a new feature, it incorporates a Salou flag, also made of crochet.
