Once again, now that we are in the first quarter of school , have begun the student visits to the Acequia Mayor. Students 4t Miramar Elementary School spent the morning of Wednesday, October 30 to discover this natural place and knowing its features , as well as its flora and fauna.

The Acequia Mayor was built about 200 years ago , in order to drain the old ponds near the sea. With an area of ​​17,000 square meters, now is an important space consisting of canyissar plant communities , wet meadows and reedbeds , and also a reservoir fauna which are rare in the country such as: the fartet ( Aphanius iberus ) the European pond turtle ( Emys orbicularis) , dried head or punxós ( Gasterosteus aculeatus ) : endangered fish . In December 1992 , the Acequia Mayor of Vila -seca was declared Plan for Areas of Natural Interest ( PEIN ) .

The recovery of the Acequia Mayor was made possible by the joint action of the Municipality of Vila -seca, the Generalitat and PortAventura . Initially intended to preserve five acres, although the final restoration project broadened to 17.3 hectares park to the present .

Visits to natural space Acequia Mayor are organized by the Tourism Department of Vila -seca and are held on Sundays from 11.00 to 13.00 h . Meanwhile, Cel Rogent handles monitoring visits .
