The Nautical Base and the Salou Center Pavilion, ready for the Mediterranean Games

The moment the authorities discover the commemorative plaque



Salou. Costa Dorada. 24 April 2018. The sports facilities that will host the trials of the Mediterranean Games in Salou, which will be undersecretary in Vela and Takwondo, are already ready to welcome the athletes. Yesterday, the mayor of the town, Pere Granados; the president of the Diputación de Tarragona, Josep Poblet and the commissioner of the Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018, Javier Villamayor visited the facilities, which have been reformed for the occasion, with an investment of 570,000 euros. They were accompanied by other representatives of the sport of the consistory and the Generalitat. The facilities that will host the competitions are the Salou Center Pavilion, where the Taekwondo events will be held, and the Salou Nautical Base, which will be the seat of the Vela discipline.

Commemorative plaques

During the visit, Pere Granados, Josep Poblet and Javier Villamayor, have discovered three commemorative plaques. The mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, said that "the efforts of the territory to carry out these Games, and the great involvement that has served to unite and be aware of belonging to a territory." Granados, added that "the population of Salou has two new facilities for the practice of sport, while allowing us to promote externally with sports tourism." On the other hand, the President of the Provincial Council, Josep Poblet, has highlighted that "beyond the uses for the ten days of the Mediterranean Games, the facilities will remain for many years for sporting and leisure uses of the whole of the citizenship, and will contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of the whole population" . The commissioner of the Games, Javier Villamayor, wanted to highlight "the union and good understanding between the sixteen venues of the Mediterranean Games, as well as the involvement of the Provincial Council in this event".

After the visit, the delegation has visited the Marina Club Náutico de Salou, located right next to the Nautical Base, where the club's president, Jaume Vicheto, and members of the board, have welcomed the authorities and assistants, to then make a visit for their facilities.

The performances of the Salou Centro Pavilion consisted in the improvement of the exterior of the facade of the building, with the application of an anti-graffiti varnish; the total renovation of the existing sports parquet, of the shower facilities of the changing rooms and of the pavement and entrance counter; as well as the improvement of the air conditioning system of the multipurpose rooms and the changing rooms of the pool, among others. The investment for these works and improvement work has been 271,000 euros, which have been borne by the Provincial Council of Tarragona, and 60,000 more by the City Council.

On the Poniente beach, next to the Yacht Club, is where the Nautical Base is located, which must host the sailing disciplines of the Mediterranean Games in Salou. Built with different prefabricated metal modules, it has all the necessary facilities to provide service to athletes (changing rooms, storage rooms, sailing room, etc.). In addition, an outdoor tent will shade a large outdoor space on the beach, from where the maritime sports will leave. With a total area of ​​300m², the investment for this project was 351,205 euros, financed entirely by the City of Salou. With this new installation it is planned to offer and satisfy also the nautical services in the population, as well as to promote nautical sports in the municipality.
