A great organization so that the 50,000 people who have participated in the party, according to figures from the City Council, have enjoyed non-stop, from beginning to end, with the rain of confetti, the music, the light show and the joy that the Cos Blanc spreads every year.
Salou begins to act as Capital of Catalan Culture 2025
On January 26, 2025, Salou officially began to act as Capital of Catalan Culture 2025, after taking over from Sabadell, which held the title during 2024. From this moment on, Salou is the cultural reference point of Catalonia and has 12 months ahead to strengthen its cultural role in various areas such as heritage, history, popular and traditional culture, and in different artistic expressions.
The Squid Festival, a tradition that breaks records
One of the most genuine traditions of Salou, which connects the municipality with its seafaring past, is undoubtedly the Squid Festival, which has been organised every year, for 49 editions, by the Salou Yacht Club. In addition, the 2024 Squid Festival has broken all records with the capture of 731 squid and a total weight of 153,586 kg of cephalopods.
Music and colour at the Christmas lights switch-on
The Christmas lights switch-on is always a good time to enjoy Salou with the family, thanks to the music and colour show organised by the Town Hall. The chosen location is the central roundabout at the intersection of Barcelona Street and Via Roma, where a splendid 12-metre-high tree is installed, all made of LED lights, and crowned by a large star.
The Rambla de Barenys, a new space to stroll and enjoy Salou
With the inauguration of the Rambla de Barenys, Salou has gained a new space of almost 3,500 square metres so that residents and visitors can stroll and enjoy the capital of the Costa Daurada. Salou's Nits Daurades 2024 festival has closed with a magnificent fireworks display, in front of thousands of people of all ages who have enjoyed the pyrotechnic show, filling the Jaume I promenade and the beach. It has been 13 days of intense celebration, with thirty events, all free, in which local talent and culture have had a special role.
Tourist train of Salou
One of the tourist attractions in Salou is the 'trenet' or tourist train, a train that transits through the main attractions of the capital of the Costa Dorada.
The tourist train offers one route in winter only in the morning and, in summer, two routes with different stops that allow to enjoy the coastal landscape of Salou and to discover the buildings and the most emblematic places of the municipality. Prices and schedule here.
What to do today in Salou. Visit the outdoor leatherback turtle exhibit
Salou is committed to art and culture and that is why every summer it opens an open-air exhibition on Paseo Jaume I. This 2024 the proposal is a unique exhibition of 10 sculptures that reproduce leatherback turtles that, in turn, have been decorated by many other painters and illustrators. It can be visited until September 30.
Salou commemorates its history by recovering its Population Charter of 1194
